September AOR E-Newsletter (in case you missed it)

Greetings!

Welcome to our first monthly AOR E-Newsletter!  Catholic health care is always changing, and so is the Ashley-O’Rourke Center.  This month we bring you highlights of some of the new people and ventures occurring at the center and the Aquinas Institute.
Welcome to Dr. Tom Bushlack, AOR’s New Faculty Co-Director

Tom's Headshots (5) What a pleasure it is to welcome Tom Bushlack, Ph.D. to our Aquinas family and particularly to our Ashley-O’Rourke Center team! Tom comes to us from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota where he served as assistant professor of moral theology for 5 years and a founding co-director of the Project for Mindfulness & Contemplation. A husband, father of three, and Notre Dame grad, Tom is also an oblate of Saint Benedict and brings a passion for the integration of contemplative spirituality and theology.  Tom holds a joint position in the faculty as Associate Professor of Christian Ethics and Co-Director of AOR.  You can read more about Tom here. His students in Cohort 9 of the EMAHCM have already experienced Tom’s facility in using contemplative tools to address difficult moral issues. Recently, I shared with Tom that as a Dominican school of theology and ministry we seek to “share the fruits of our contemplation” with others. The next day he stopped by my office to tell me how compelling that little phrase was for him. As our new Co-Director, Tom will assist in program development, refinement and outreach to Catholic health care. Clearly, Tom is finding a happy home here at Aquinas! Welcome Dr. Bushlack!

Liz Foshage Joins AOR Leadership Team

Elizabeth (Liz) Foshage, Senior Vice President, Finance at Ascension has joined the Ashley-O’Rourke team to strengthen our leadership development programming. Liz is an experienced leader in Catholic healthcare, a graduate of Ascension’s Executive Ministry Leadership (EML) program and will soon complete her EMAHCM in 2016. The Executive Masters of Arts in Health Care Mission (EMAHCM)  is intended to ground Catholic healthcare leaders in the theological tradition of the healing ministry and it also challenges its participants to make applications of this theology in the many practices and processes which are used to administer healing on a daily basis. This application of theology is accomplished in the EMAHCM through a series of Saturday morning leadership development workshops. These workshops are held in conjunction with the intensive retreats for each theology course. Liz will bring her knowledge, experience, and wisdom into her new role in facilitating these Saturday morning workshops.
Recently, Liz has been named one of St Louis’ Most Influential Women Business Leaders by the St Louis Business Journal.  She is also an active leader in St Louis ministries including: a member of the Audit Committee for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, the Finance Committee for her local parish, St Gerard Majella, the Ignatian Identity Committee for DeSmet high school, and the Finance Committee for the Daughers of Charity Province of St Louis. Liz was a co-founder of Ascension’s Management Formation Program. You can read more about Liz’s bio here.
Liz brings an extensive background in integrating the Church’s theological tradition into everyday business practice. Her strong commitment to the principles of Catholic healthcare and her energetic pursuit of solutions that work have been the hallmark of her successful career. We are very excited to announce her as a new member of the AOR leadership team!
